How to collect your sample for the Elements test

The following information is specific to the Elements Hair test.

Important: Failure to collect an adequate sample may result in an additional charge being levied for retesting.

CHECK LIST

Your test kit should include the following items

  1. 1 x Hair Scale with collection instructions.

  2. Zip lock specimen bag.

  3. 1 x Consent form.

  4. 1 x Pre-paid returns envelope

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Hair that has been permed, dyed, bleached, or otherwise chemically treated is vulnerable to contamination and is not recommended for use. Do not mix head hair with pubic hair.

CONSTRUCT THE BALANCE SCALE

The balance scale is a device to weigh the perfect amount of hair required by the lab.

Bend the black tabs down to form a fulcrum.

CUT AND COLLECT

To ensure a usable sample please follow the cutting and measuring guide below.

  1. Cut samples of hair from back of head using stainless steel scissors, cut hair as close to the scalp as possible. It is best if small amounts of hair are cut from 5 or 6 areas in the back of the head.

  2. As each piece of hair is cut from the head, save only 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the hair closest to the scalp. Cut off and discard the rest. Place the saved hair on the scale.

  3. Keep cutting and adding hair to the scale until it tips. The scale is designed to collect about 0.25 grams of hair.

SIGN AND RETURN

Once your sample is safely sealed, follow these steps to return your sample for processing by the labs.

  1. Check and sign your consent form and apply the pre-paid returns label to the front of the returns envelope.

  2. Add the signed consent form to the returns envelope.

  3. Label the plastic bag with your name, date of birth, sex and date of collection. Add your weighed hair sample to the envelope and seal.
  4. Seal the package and drop off at any Royal Mail post office.

VIEWING YOUR RESULTS

Once your sample has been processed you will receive an email confirming your results are ready to be viewed on your account. This is usually within 10-12 days of the lab receiving the sample. If there are any issues with your sample we will be in touch.
